Knowing the medicine is half the job.

Staying calm and focused in the exam is the other half.

You're a specialty trainee doctor who has worked hard to get where you are. You know your subject, but in the exam you freeze, blank, or lose the thread of your thoughts?

I help specialty trainee doctors move from exam anxiety to calm confidence so they can perform at their best.

Is this you?

You've read the textbooks, worked through the question banks, and joined a study group.

But in the exam you feel panicked and can't think straight, like a rabbit in the headlights. You second-guess your answers. You struggle to understand the questions, losing precious time re-reading them.

Or in the viva your mind goes blank the moment the examiner looks at you. You start over-explaining and speaking too fast, or you blank and stumble over the words.

This is because the exam is testing two different things: the 'what', which is your knowledge of the material, and the 'who', which is you as a person and a doctor.

All the revision courses and the question banks help you with the 'what'. That's half of the job.

I can help you with the 'who', the other half.

Working on you

Working on the 'who' means working on you. We look at exactly what happens when the freeze, the blank or the spiral takes hold, and exactly what needs to shift for it to be different. This will be unique to you.

By working with that specific experience you can access calm, focus and confidence when it matters most.

You've already tried some things that haven’t worked

Breathing exercises, meditation apps, maybe even asking AI how to calm your nerves before an exam.

If none of these have worked for you, it's because they are not specific to you and your in-the-moment experience.

I work directly with what's happening in your body and mind in a specific context, so the shift comes from your own system, not from something externally suggested.

Sessions will run across three to four months and how the work unfolds is different for everyone, because it depends on you and what you're struggling with.

Hi I’m Dr. Azi Khatiri

Before training as a therapeutic coach, I spent years as a scientist: a first class degree in Chemistry, a PhD in Semiconductor Nanotechnology, and a decade as a science journalist for the BBC, Nature and the BMJ. I understand rigour and evidence, and I know what it takes to perform under pressure in a demanding technical field, because I've lived inside that world myself.

Now I help specialty trainee doctors move from exam anxiety to calm confidence so they can perform at their very best.

Based in London, working with doctors across the UK and worldwide.

  • "Azi has equipped me with the awareness and tools that will support my personal and professional development for many years to come."

    — Jen Barwell, FRCS Orthopaedics

  • "Azi, you gently but skilfully guided me to dig deep within myself to rediscover that I do have all the power in my core, all the innate resources to keep going from strength to strength."

    — Dr. Olga S, GP Trainee

  • "What sets Azi apart is her ability to get you really thinking, deeply and constructively, about what your mind is doing that contributes to the challenge, and the realistic ways you can begin to overcome it"

    — M. O.

  • "These sessions don't just bring clarity. They push me forward, giving me the confidence to take chances and face my fears, knowing that I'll be okay no matter what."

    — Ashley R.

  • "The few sessions I've had with you have been more effective than anything I've tried over the past 20 years."

    — L. C.

  • "Azi is incredibly understanding and patient. Her way of coaching helped me discover my own solutions, which has made the strategies we explored stay with me."

    — Rebecca S.

  • "I approached Azi with a long-standing inner conflict. Azi’s approach and working style allowed me to explore this conflict in real depth and to identify its core cause. I was finally able to make long-needed changes to my work schedule and, equally importantly, gained much greater clarity about my values and strategic goals."

    — Anna S.

  • "Azi’s coaching leads you to process and assess where you are, where you want to go and how you can get there"

    — Janet J.
